This is a featured lesson plan of Speak Truth to Power (STTP) Human Rights Education Program, which is centered around the stories of human rights defenders from around the world. As the Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, Betty Williams has devoted her life to the advancement of peace and justice through nonviolent means in Northern Ireland. This lesson aims to help students examine religious conflict, gang conflict and root causes of violence and poverty. Students will be able to evaluate school and governmental policies that support or detract from peace, as well as implement grass-roots activism.
