This book addresses the principle that children have the right to be protected from violence by drawing on the 2006 United Nations Secretary-General’s Study on Violence against Children and the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The introductory chapter provides basic information on the United Nations’ study, guidelines for talking with young people about violence, ideas for working with groups, planning workshops, and taking action. Chapters 2-8 contain practical activities that can be used to help children understand issues of violence in five settings: in the home and family; in schools and educational settings; in institutions and prisons; in the workplace; and in the community. The book is written for youth leaders, peer educators, and teachers working with groups of young people aged 12-18.
