This online Handbook is designed to supplement Article 19’s Freedom of Expression Handbook (1993). It contains mainly cases from four international jurisdictions: the UN Human Rights Committee, the African Commission on Human and People’s Rights, the Inter-American Commission and Court on Human Rights and the European Commission and Court of Human Rights. The book includes cases (since 1993) and key documents in the main areas of restriction on freedom of expression: broadcast/film regulation, the concentration of ownership, content restrictions, defamation, freedom of information, minorities, national security, print regulation, privacy, protection of sources, public order, public service broadcasting.
