This guide, intended for African civil society organizations, identifies ways to advocate with governments for the ratification of the Convention for the Protection and Assistance of Internally Displaced Persons in Africa (the Kampala Convention) and its incorporation into national law. It also gives guidance on how these organizations can use the Convention to contribute to effective protection and assistance of internally displaced persons on the ground. It builds on examples of activities that civil society organizations have undertaken in the past to help prevent arbitrary displacement, to protect internally displaced persons during displacement, and to help them find durable solutions.
