This “pocket book” was produced by the United Nations as a guide to police training. It is designed to provide a readily accessible and portable reference for police committed to the lawful and humane performance of their vital functions in a democratic society. The text is organised subject with lists of provisions and standards drawn from over thirty international human rights treaties and standards. Rather than directly reproducing these documents this packet was set up in order to give a brief overview of international human rights standards and for those more interested in reading the original sources themselves endnotes are provided along with each standard laid down. This guide will be particularly useful to law enforcement personnel and legal professionals.
