The purpose of this manual is to provide social work students, teaching staff and practicing social workers with an understanding and awareness of human rights issues and concerns for social justice. The manual consists of three parts. Part I explains the rationale for human rights in social work and describes the conceptual development of human rights. Part II elaborates on international and regional human rights instruments. Part III discusses human rights in social work practice based on common themes and vulnerable groups. The manual includes the full text of the International Bill of Human Rights.
