The goal of this resource is to encourage and support the development of education policies and curricula in schools that support and promote young people’s participation in democratic life specifically by supporting the work of education leaders and curriculum developers in integrating EDC/HRE within curriculum systems and to encourage the engagement of stakeholders in supporting such efforts. The first half of the report includes a review and analysis section of EDC and HRE, a section that looks at EDC/HRE in the future, and a section that outlines how to achieve this future through curriculum writing and planning for system support. The second half of the report utilizes four case studies on different elements of EDC/HRE: 1) curriculum development phases for civics and citizenship in Australia, 2) organization of competences for living together, democratic participation and plurality in Colombia, 3) EDC/HRE in condition of local choice in Finland, and 4) external actors and cross-curricular reform – applying a human rights perspective in South Africa.
