The unMASKing Pandemic Curriculum Project: Exploring the Impact, Sharing the Experience

All around the world, we have put on masks to protect ourselves and prevent the spread of COVID-19. Yet the pandemic has also unmasked educational and emotional challenges for educators and students as well as a myriad of human rights issues. Generation Human Rights (GenHR) and Human Rights Education Associates (HREA), in association with VII Photo agency, have collaborated to develop an online, multimedia, open-sourced curriculum entitled unMASKing: The Pandemic Curriculum Project. The curriculum, designed for youth in grades eight through twelve, provides teachers with a roadmap to guide students, in a supportive and inclusive way, as they explore the local and global impacts of COVID-19, share their personal experiences, and process related human rights issues.
The four modules of the unMASKing curriculum integrate creative multimedia practices, such as the unMASKed Pandemic Stories: Reflections from Youth Around the World StoryMap, to encourage students to engage in critical thinking and investigative skill development as they assess the impact of COVID-19 on personal, local, and global levels.
unMASKing: The Pandemic Curriculum Project is free to educators worldwide. Educators using the curriculum will have the opportunity to participate in free professional development webinars to familiarize themselves with the curriculum and to facilitate peer sharing.
